Literature Text

Scene: An extremely grand central chamber. The room has intricate patterns of blue , silver, gold and black. In the front are 4 of the 10 Grandmasters. Their seats are made of an ethereal substance and their robes have ever changing patterns on them. Nero and Melina are in the center of the room.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nero: (Introducing Melina) This is the student you wanted to speak with: Melina Angelo.

Grandmaster Athur: (To Melina) Is it true you were near the Obice's gate when it opened?

Melina: (Nodding) Yes, I was.

Grandmaster Athur: And what did it look like when it opened?

Melina: (Using hand gestures) It was at least 20 feet high and it had this huge pillar of black and red light coming from it. (Questioningly) Why do you need me to describe it? Shouldn't you have seen it? It's not something that's just common around here.

Grandmaster Athur: It's simply that according to all our accounts, there was no visible gate. Demons simply came from the Necromancy hall and started destroying everything in their path. While we don't doubt the possibility it could be a form of demonic magic, it does raise the question of how you could see it but hundreds of others couldn't.

Grandmaster Malphur: (Whispering to Grandmaster Athur) Do you think she opened it? Only those who are opening the gate would be able to see it.

Grandmaster Nicole: (Tightly squeezing the back of Grandmaster Malphur's neck; whispering threateningly) Are you suggesting that my daughter has started the apocalypse?

Grandmaster Malphur: (Shrugging off Nicole's grip) I'm only saying it's a possibility! We only have legends to go off of here!

Melina: So you mean to tell me not a soul heard the loud ass explosion or saw the bright glowing beam of light jetting into the sky? (Laughing in disbelief) And our lives depend on you people?!

Grandmaster Yor: As Malphur said we only have legends to go off of, and according to legends only those in the summoning circle could see the Obice for what it really is.

Grandmaster Athur: (Defending Melina) Although, the summoning circle for the Obice is extremely large. So it could simply be a coincidence.

Grandmaster Yor: We'll find out the truth later, but for now we need to focus on the more pressing issue: The demon horde.

Melina: (Agreeing) Exactly, what's your plan of attack to defeat them? That has to be something you people are good at.

Grandmaster Athur: (Chuckles) "Defeat them"? No, child, we're going to capture them! This is a golden opportunity to advance magic!

Melina: (Questioningly) Are you sure that's a good idea?

Grandmaster Athur: (Leaning forward with a warning tone in his voice) Are you questioning my authority?

Melina: (Boldly) You're goddamn right I am! We should be killing these monsters not holding them!!

Grandmaster Athur: And this is why there are people in charge and people who obey. You must see possibilities! Something you obviously cannot do.

Melina: (Holding down her anger) With all due respect, (sarcastically) Grandmaster Athur, that is the dumbest idea right after letting the demons outright murder us all!! So you can take your idea and-(interrupted)

Grandmaster Nicole: (Chidingly) MELINA!

Melina: Well, Mom, you know it's stupid, too! That's like holding a serial killer in your house and saying "Now don't kill me, okay?"

Grandmaster Malphur: (Murmuring; Rubbing his chin) We should put her under a vinculum* ... Make her hunt down high priority targets...

Melina: (Overhearing Malphur) No need, I'm going for anything that might be a lieutenant in the demon ranks and capturing them. They'll be here for your "strange and unusual" experiments.

Grandmaster Nicole: (Concerned) Melina, are you sure? There are reports of larger than normal demons tearing through cities in the blink of an eye. You'll need a team.

Melina: (Confidently) Trust me, I've got this! (Back almost gives out; Winces) I just need a healer.

Grandmaster Yor: And it shall be granted to you.

Melina: Good. Now how do get out of here? (Looking around) Is there like an elevator or something? Maybe a staircase?

Grandmaster Yor: (Snaps his fingers, teleporting Melina home)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene: Melina's room in her house. Fairly large and open space for large spells. She doesn't have a door in her door-frame as long, complex wards guard her room from uninvited intruders. Her room's walls are filled with almost everything a magician would need: Potion brewery, a forge, large stack or paper talismans, and more. On one wall there is a weapon crafting bench, where she works on her scythe. She hears a knock at the door and starts to release the wards.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nero: (Walking into Melina's room) You ready to find this team of yours?

Melina: When I repair my scythe, yeah.

Nero: (Slightly concerned) Are you okay? You look a bit pale.

Melina: (Showing her thumbs which have still-bleeding cuts on them) Yeah. I have to use my blood to repair my scythe*. Makes it way better than your average scythe, but it's a hell of a price to pay.

Nero: (Sighing; casting a lesser healing spell on Melina) Your mother wanted to see you before you leave.

Melina: I wonder what she want to see me for. (Continues repairing her scythe)

                                                               [Later...]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scene: Outside Melina's house. Her mother, Nicole, is standing outside with a mysterious package. Nicole looks like she's happy yet sad to see her daughter go off into dangerous places even though she knows Melina can take care of herself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Melina: (Walking up to her mom) What did you want to talk about, mom?

Nicole: (Showing Melina the package) You'll have a long, hard road on your travels. I wanted to wait until you were a Grandmaster, but when you come back, you'll be worthy of the title.

Melina: (Opens the box revealing a flexi-plast chestplate and an elegant titane*-forged blade; excited) I-is this what I think it is?!

Nicole: Yes, it's the family armor, but repurposed into that chestplate you were looking at last year. Try it on and make sure it fits.

Melina: (Slipping on the chestplate) Wow, this is really comfy. (Rotating her arms to get a feel for the armor; looks at Nicole) Does it have an activator?

Nicole: Of course! I think you'll like it, too.

Melina: (Uttering a trigger exponentia; chestplate glowing a faint white and large, white, nearly transparent, angelic wings appear from the back; in awe) This...this is really cool!! How much did this cost?

Nicole: (Shrugging) Cheaper than you think. (Hugging Melina) You be safe out there.

Melina: Of course I will, mom.

                                                                  [End Part 2]

*Latin for "bond". Is a Grandmaster level spell that binds the target to the caster's will.

Blood for repairing a weapon is a form of blood magic.

Titane: French for titanium. In this world, however, titane is extremely heavy, sharp, and strong. It is near indestructible, but extremely rare and expensive, especially for a blade as the melting point of titane is 7,000°C.
Minor sentence repairing. Nothing to see here
